About Zylos Chess
Zylos Chess is an offline chess game: play the computer at four levels, play a friend on the same phone (with or without a chess clock), and solve rated puzzles from the Lichess puzzle database. All games are played on your device; there is no online play and no chat.
What you can do
- Four levels, from Beginner to Advanced. Choose White, Black or Random.
- Pass-and-play on one phone, with or without a chess clock (1 | 0 up to 15 | 10, with increment).
- Over 3,400 rated puzzles from the Lichess database that adapt to your puzzle rating, with a daily streak.
- 15 free puzzles a day; watch an ad to unlock 5 more.
- Stuck? Watch an optional ad for a hint.
- Check, checkmate, stalemate, threefold repetition, insufficient material, the fifty-move rule, resignation and agreed draws.
- Move list with review, captured pieces, undo in untimed games, flip, sound and haptics.
- Results, game history and replay of every finished game.
- Light and dark themes, three board colour sets.
- Optional Zylos account (Google, email or guest) backs up your settings, puzzle progress and recent games so you can restore them on a new phone.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account?
No. Every feature of the game works without an account. A Zylos account is optional and only adds a cloud backup, so you can restore your data on a new phone.
- Open Settings → Account and sign in with Google, create an account with email and password, or continue as a guest.
- One Zylos account works across all Zylos games; each keeps its own backup.
What is backed up, and how do I restore it?
While you are signed in, the game backs up: settings; puzzle progress (rating, solved puzzles, streak); your most recent finished games (moves and results), as many as fit.
- Never backed up: an unfinished game; tip schedule and review-prompt counters.
- Backups run automatically when something changed (at most every 10 minutes while the game is open, and when it goes to the background).
- To restore, install the game on the new phone and sign in with the same account in Settings → Account; the game offers to restore the saved data. A guest account can only be restored on the phone that created it, so link it to Google first if you plan to switch phones.
How do I delete my account and data?
In the game: Settings → Account → Delete account. This removes your sign-in, your profile and every Zylos backup at once.
- Without the game: go to games.zylostechsolutions.com/delete-account, sign in with the same account and confirm.
- Data stored only on your phone is removed when you uninstall the game (or use Android Settings → Apps → Zylos Chess → Storage → Clear storage).
- Signing out is not deleting: your backup stays for the next time you sign in.
How do I turn notifications and quick actions on or off?
Occasional announcements (new features, tips) are sent to everyone with the game — never targeted at you personally. On Android 13 and later the game asks for notification permission once, from your third launch, and not again if you say no.
- Quick actions: a silent notification with shortcuts into the game. Turn it on or off in the game's Settings → Quick actions in notifications.
- Tips and reminders: occasional local tips about features you haven't tried. Turn them off in Settings → Tips and reminders.
- To stop all notifications, turn them off for Zylos Chess in your phone's Settings → Apps → Notifications.
Why do I see ads?
The game is free, and ads from Google AdMob pay for it. Banners appear on screens outside a game (home, puzzles list, history, settings). A full-screen ad may appear when you move between screens, at most once per two moves, never during a game or puzzle, at launch or when you leave. Rewarded ads (for a hint or 5 more puzzles a day) play only when you tap to watch one.
- Ads are limited to content suitable for a general audience (maximum ad content rating “PG”).
How do I change my ad consent or personalisation?
Where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and some US states), Google's consent form appears before any ad loads.
- To change your choice later: Settings → Privacy → Ad privacy choices (shown where Google says privacy options are required).
- You can also reset or delete your advertising ID in your phone's Settings → Privacy → Ads, and manage Google ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com.
Which permissions does the game use, and why?
Notifications (Android 13+, optional) — Local tips and occasional announcements from us. Asked once, after your first finished game or from your third launch; the game works the same without it, and tips can be turned off in Settings.
- Run at startup — Keeps scheduled tips after the phone restarts.
- Network access — Loads ads from Google AdMob. If you sign in, it also carries your backup.
- Advertising ID / Android ad services — added by Google's ads SDK; controlled by your consent and your phone's ad settings.
- You can change any permission in your phone's settings; the game keeps working without the optional ones. The full list, with technical names, is in the privacy policy.
What information do you collect?
Your games, puzzle progress and settings are stored on your device. There is no online play, no chat and no way to contact other players.
- Local tips (at most one a day, only in the first days after you last played) are scheduled on the phone; you can turn them off in Settings.
- The app shows ads from Google AdMob between games, never during a game or puzzle, with Google's consent form where required. Rewarded ads play only when you choose them.
- Uninstalling the app deletes everything it stored on the phone.
